Colloidal Silver Review by a non medical expert

Just to be certain it is clear, I am NOT a medical expert on ANY type of subject.  I am an author, a cook, a father, but have no medical degree .
But this woman is a medical expert, and a doctor.

Colloidal silver has been used for almost a hundred years now as an anti-viral, antibiotic, and anti bacterial property to it that cannon be ignored...while there is no medical research to support the claim that using colloidal silver will benefit you in any way, there are thousands of testimonials from people who have used it to treat  various ailments, such as colds, influenza, and other viral infections.  Since I am not a medical professional, I will site all resources used to compile this review.

Conspiracy theorists speculate that the benefits of this mineral have been downplayed, because the process to make colloidal silver is so simple and inexpensive that almost anyone can do it at home for less than $30.  This makes the use of colloidal silver as a medical treatment , no matter how effective, unprofitable and unable to be patented.  Thus the government, who makes large profits on the taxes collected within the pharmaceutical industry, has little interest in sharing the amazing benefits of this simple, natural supplement.  Rather, they'd prefer to keep that information scarce, and not fund testing as there is no financial gain to spending money on researching an unprofitable product.  Even though the product could potentially save lives.

Several claims have been made(and down played as well) that collodial silver even has the ability to treat the deadly EBOLA virus that has erupted throuought Africa in recent months.  The virus has a high mortality rate, and in recent weeks, starting with Thomas Eric Duncan, has been introduced into the U.S. on almost a dozen occasions.  I could go on for hours about the CDC contradictions, the airborne ebola (pigs and monkeys in cages in the same room), and the obscene lack of intensity by the government to address the travel issues, etc, but do as they do, I'd rather try to be a problem solver.

So here is what I have learned can be the side effects/risks of using collodial silver:
 1.  Argyria- Blue tint appears on the skin...few known cases...the guy who got it from collodial silver was drinking a quart a day for 2 years to become a gigantic smurf.  That's about an extra 190 doses from what is needed to support your immune system.  Other cases are related to Colloidal silver being used as a topical antiseptic.  Discoloration of the skin can occur if repeated use on an area of the body constantly exposed to sunlight(collodial silver reacts to light).  Only excessive overuse of the product is known to cause this condition.
2. Interaction with other medications-Antibiotics such as tetracycline(which also reacts to sunlight) and "cillins" are said to be blocked from absorption when used with colloidal silver.

Now here are the benefits...referenced by webmd   http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-779-colloidal%20silver.aspx?activeingredientid=779&activeingredientname=colloidal%20silver

Colloidal silver is used to treat infections due to yeast; bacteria (tuberculosis, Lyme disease, bubonic plague, pneumonia, leprosy, gonorrhea, syphilis, scarlet fever, stomach ulcers, cholera); parasites (ringworm, malaria); and viruses (HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, herpes, shingles, warts).
Colloidal silver is also used for lung conditions including emphysema and bronchitis; skin conditions including rosacea, cradle cap (atopic dermatitis), eczema, impetigo, and psoriasis; and inflammation (sometimes due to infection) of the bladder (cystitis), prostate (prostatitis), colon (colitis), nose (rhinitis), stomach (gastritis), tonsils (tonsillitis), appendix (appendicitis), and sinuses (sinusitis).
Other uses include treatment of cancer, diabetes, arthritis, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, leukemia, hay fever and other allergies, trench foot, and gum disease.
Colloidal silver is also used to prevent flu, H1N1 (swine) flu, and the common cold.
Some women take colloidal silver during pregnancy to aid the baby's growth and health as well as the mother's delivery and recovery.
Colloidal silver is applied directly to the skin for acne, burns, eye infections, fungal infections, throat infections, skin infections, and Staphylococcus infections.

This is the presentation that the supporters claim is from the DOD and shows that silver can block Ebola.

And recently, laws have been passed to prevent claims by colloidal silver retailers that suggest it could treat Ebola(which is a virus like flu and cold).  And I'm not saying it does, either.   Common sense suggests that it couldn't hurt, however, since there are records of hospitals buying it at the last outbreak...shipments never made it to the U.S. however...couldn't imagine why.

Here are some videos showing the antimicrobial properties of colloidal silver.

As you can see by the demonstrations and information above, the properties of colloidal silver are effective against bacteria, fungi, and viruses(cold, flu, possibly even Ebola) .

Here's how to make it at home:

Simple enough, right?  All the required pieces can be purchased from Ebay or your local hardware/grocery store.

Since there is a lot of rumor about how this stuff will turn you blue, I am going to begin taking this supplement myself in coming weeks, and I will document my progress and skin color.  This will be located in a part 2 of this review, under the title "my personal experience with colloidal silver".

Until then, keep in mind that the personal accounts of hundreds reflect the benefits of using this supplement.  Regardless of medical research, almost all of these people using colloidal silver are healthy, not blue, and fairly confident that their supplement is doing much more good than harm..
